As far as I know, wodell is an etymological munge of Elwood - a name somehow significant to my family's past. We pronounce it wuh-dell, but then folks presume a spelling like woodell or woodel. Emphiszing the 'o' with a long-o sound (woh - dell) seems to help, but they still can't seem to accept the single 'd'. I suspect that if Michael Dell had a slightly different surname, his company might not have done so well.
